
President Ian Khama has cautioned the Rio bound Team Botswana against doping. Khama said the position of the government and that of sport organisations in Botswana is very clear against doping. He said Botswana abhors the act as it is cheating and it can never be tolerated in the country. Khama was speaking at the sending off ceremony of the team that will represent the country at the coming 201 Rio Olympics in Brazil on Monday evening in Gaborone. The delegation is expected to leave the country on Wednesday for the games that start on August 5, 2016. Team Botswana leaves at a time when sport is riddled by issues of doping, particularly athletics. President Khama therefore pleaded with the team members to play a clean sport and to preserve the good name of Botswana. “As you head to Rio, Remember the Olympic movement is premised on the values of excellence, friendship and respect. I, therefore, call for each and every one of you to live to these values. Give your best on the field, and compete fairly,” said Khama.
