
Despite coming back home without a medal the duo of Karabo Sibanda and Baboloki Thebe have impressed sponsors at the just-ended Rio Olympics which saw them penning a contract with Nike. Reports coming from Botswana National Olympic Committee say Nike was impressed by the duo’s performance at the games. The Nike contract will see the two teenagers wearing Nike attire when competing as part of the deal. It has been also been revealed that the deal comes with financial rewards for the young Botswana stars. The total value of the contract however has not yet been revealed. Information from BNOC indicates that the Nike contract was signed following engagements of relevant stakeholders from Botswana. Despite failing to get a medal Sibanda shined at the Rio Olympics in the 400m race. He managed to break his own personal best time twice in the highly competitive event. The young man also helped the 4 by 400m relay team to break its record two times as well. On the other hand Thebe, who is currently the world’s fastest junior in 400m, was hampered by injury. He, however, proved his capability in the heat of the 400m when he easily qualified for the semi-finals.…
