The annual Sports View International Meet has been renamed – it will now be known as Gaborone International Meet. The race organiser and former 800m great Glody Dube says the reason behind this is to attract international stars to Botswana who will use the race as a qualifier for big events. “This is now the product for the nation and it is going to be very big because this year it is international. We have upgraded it to that level,” he said. Dube said the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Culture has been brought as sponsor. “There will be the qualifying standards. We can even confirm that the stadium has already been booked for the 29th of April,” he said. Dube said Botswana will be hosting athletes from all over the world in April, some of whom will be based at South African performance centres. They are making an arrangement to bring them to compete just from South Africa other than waiting for them to go back to their home countries.
