
Orapa United will soon be cut free by Debswana. Team chairman Thatayaone Sithole said they want the team to be self-sustainable in about two years. He said this at their recent launch in Letlhakane, a move calculated at taking the team to the people. Sithole said he has been in charge of the team since 2012 after it was handed to him by the mine ex-co. He said even though he asked that he be excused last year the ex-co didn’t allow him to do that. He said as the team they have the vision dubbed ‘Orapa Today, Boteti Tomorrow’ (OTBT) and that is one thing that led to all teams in Orapa coming together to make one team. “We are now a benchmark. People come here to see how we have done it and how we are doing it, and people have been asking us many times on whether the team belongs to the mine or Boteti, but the emphasis is that the team belongs to the people, the mines are just assisting,” he said.
