Footballers Union Botswana (FUB) Secretary General Kgosana Masaseng has been appointed to the FIFPro Finance & Professionalisation Committee for Africa Division. Masaseng was appointed to this committee at the recent FIFPro Annual General Assembly held in Cairo, Egypt. FIFPro is the worldwide representative organisation for all professional footballers’ welfare. Masaseng hailed the appointment as an honour for him and FUB. He said it offers an opportunity for Botswana to be closer to decision making that concerns player welfare issues. Masaseng said the committee’s mandate is to transform player welfare status in Africa as well as push for fully fledged professional unions. He said being in this committee will give him a close proximity to decision making, which will benefit the country as he will be able to take up the matters nationally. “Being in this committee brings me close to issues and we will be able to engage local stakeholders on decisions made,” he said. Some also deem Masaseng’s appointment as a good development, saying it will help Botswana move towards professionalism quickly.
