
The Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) has commended De Beers Group for its support to youth empowerment and sport development in Botswana. Speaking at a ceremony to welcome 2018 Diacore Marathon runners who were sponsored by De Beers, held this Saturday, Gable Garenamotse, BAA Sports Development Officer, Gable Garenamotse said the support given by De Beers to the 20 athletes to participate at the marathon will go a long way in positioning Botswana as a key player in long distance races. “This initiative will unearth Botswana’s talent and enhance the country’s opportunities to excel at international marathons, including at the Olympics” he said. Garenamotse further implored other entities to invest more in human capital and nurture our athletes. Speaking at the event, the De Beers Group Vice President; Corporate Affairs and Government Relations, Pat Dambe highlighted that the initiative is a partnership between the De Beers Group and the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development, aimed at supporting Botswana youth athletes to propel their talent in running. “This is the second consecutive year that we have partnered with MYSC to deliver this exercise.
