… As they fail to pay P400 000 to Appiah Gaborone United’s failure to pay their former player Bismarck Appiah $39, 500 (P400 000) is threatening the club’s standing in local game and can even get them fully suspended from any football activity. FIFA had given GU 30 days from July 26 to have paid the whole amount to the player and when the club failed to do that they were handed down a three-point deduction punishment. This means that GU are now trailing the Botswana Premier League log standings and stand to lose more if the matter is not resolved. At worst, they could be suspended completely from all football activities. FIFA had earlier threatened the Botswana Football Association (BFA) with unspecified sanctions should it fail to ensure that GU paid its former Ghanaian player outstanding wages. FIFA Disciplinary Committee reminded BFA of its duty “to automatically implement the pertinent sanctions (against Gaborone United) as established in FIFA Circular no 1628 sent on 9th May 2018.” Appiah had claimed $39,000 back in 2016, and a subsequent default judgment was given by FIFA to pay the player by April 3rd 2018.
