FIFA had given GU 30 days from July 26 to have paid the whole amount to the player and when the club failed to do that they were handed down a three-point deduction punishment. This means that GU are now trailing the Botswana Premier League log standings and stand to lose more if the matter is not resolved. At worst, they could be suspended completely from all football activities. FIFA had earlier threatened the Botswana Football Association (BFA) with unspecified sanctions should it fail to ensure that GU paid its former Ghanaian player outstanding wages.
