
The bond between Botswana Metropolitan and Botswana Chess Federation (BCF) deepened this week when Metropolitan splashed P120 000 as sponsorship for this year’s National Chess Championship. Speaking at the sponsorship launch at the National Stadium on Wednesday, Metropolitan Head of Distributions Masego Mokgolodi said they were very proud to be associated with Chess as it is a game of strategy. “Chess players are generally smart people that is why we have a gradual bond with them and always make sure that we reserve some portion for them during our budgeting,” Mokgolodi said. BCF President Tshenolo Maruatona said they were pleased to have a sponsor who has been so loyal to them during the past 10 years. He hailed the Metropolitan National Chess Championship as the biggest on their calendar of events – the only event that does not discriminate players in terms of their playing strength and rankings. “This event creates champions. We have produced a good number of champions over the years and all thanks to Metropolitan,” noted Maruatona. The Botswana National Sports Commission’s (BNSC), Steady Basupang, said they were grateful of the relationship between BCF and Metropolitan and hoped it will continue to grow.
