Botswana Cricket Association (BCA) has reached another milestone. Botswana Integrated Sports Association (BISA) has added them to its lists of sporting codes, meaning that from now on they will be taking part in the BISA competitions both locally and abroad. BCA CEO Girish Ramakrishna hailed the development, saying it will go a long way in making the sport popular. The sport is currently played in 296 primary schools with 15 392 children playing it. They recently held a workshop for teachers from junior schools in the Gaborone region to ensure continuity at junior and secondary level especially after being welcomed by BISA. “We were training teachers from six schools and that shows that we indeed have a long way to go,” he said. During the course, the participating teachers managed to learn the basics of bowling and batting. At the end of the day they played a modified game where they were showed various ways of scoring runs and ways of dismiss. On the last day of the workshop they were taken through various ways of fielding starting with the close and high catching with fingers facing down, the cup shape method and some drills being applied.
