The International Working Group (IWG) of Women in Sport Secretary General Game Mothibi has just returned from at an expert meeting in Paris, France that was organised by UNESCO on accountability in gender equality. Mothibi said they met at the conference to prepare for the July UNESCO sports ministers meeting set for Russia. The ministers’ meeting takes place every four years. “The meeting was attended by organisations like the Commonwealth Secretariat, International Olympic Committee (IOC), United Nations Office in Sports Development, IWG and World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) just to name but a few,” she said. Mothibi said sports integrity was discussed in general where they noted the issues of doping, match fixing, equality as a whole, disability and most importantly business mobilisation in sport. She said topics like business mobilisation were included because most sports entities cannot function on their own and as such they rely mostly on donors and sponsors in order to be able to run their offices efficiently. “To run sports is very expensive and as such it is important that we come up with measures for these organisations to not only receive money but rather to be sustainable on their own,” she said.
